About Handball in Canterbury

Handball is relatively new in New Zealand and in Canterbury. After a few unsuccessful attempts to start a club in Christchurch, it seems now that this great sport is attracting more and more players. The University of Canterbury Handball Club was founded in 2005. During our last meeting on Friday 5 October, it was agreed to create a new club, Christchurch City Handball. Together with a team from St Bedes College, it was decided to start a league in Canterbury. There will be more info on this website soon.

Our main focus is to develop and grow handball in the region by helping the individual players achieve their goals whether it is to play socially at club level or to aim for selection for the regional or national teams.

To achieve these goals we try to send teams to all the tournaments in and around New Zealand as well as hosting an annual tournament in Christchurch.

This year we also hosted a Beach Handball tournament with great success and upon request it's also going to be an annual event.

We cater for handball players from all over the Canterbury region, beginners as well as experienced players.

Everybody is welcome to join us!
